The Frilled Lizard Has Arrived!

Process shots showing some of the steps it took. I'm wearing my wrist brace because of carpal tunnel.

Getting the drawing contours in first with a tiny brush then filling in the big areas with a larger brush.

Busting out the teeny tinies. I took good care of my brushes this time around and 1 teeny tiny did the trick.

Using a flyer as a palette surface. Note all the different yellows, some warmer than others, some darker than others. I love painting shadows, they sure give a thing depth.

Some final colours, fine-tuning the colour decisions. I'm largely working within a tight spectrum of charcoal grey so I have to add the variations carefully. Everything's relative though so it's really about stepping back and taking a look at the bigger picture before finalizing my choices.

I added just a bit of pink to this painting, I couldn't help myself.

Mapping out the grid to get the pattern right.

I love patterns because they give the vision field rhythm.

Mixing a bunch of different blacks, guess it's hard to tell here but some have a smudge of blue, others red and others slightly grey.

Last minute just decided it needed something in the corner here.

I'll photograph it tomorrow if the lighting is right. That's my journey although I've already begun the schematics for the next painting already so you're just a couple hours behind. Thanks for keeping up 😊

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME (BELATED)

Oops, this post is late too. Every year the peonies come out around my birthday in June. Below is a bunch I got this year! I ended up using it as a reference photo for the Furry Lisa meme above. It didn't take me long, maybe 30 minutes? I just drew the peonies on top of the original painting with the computer. I like how it turned out and I'm a big fan of different shades of pinks and reds together so.. Why do I do these? I don't know, it's a real accessible way to get a bunch of ideas across. The concepts are time dependent so it does force you to come up with a new idea on the spot and knowing you have sort of a deadline to complete it. I live for the rush! Now if I could only share it on time on here..

I sold a painting!

Last parting photo with the Narwhal, I love selling paintings! Forever exciting, this one's going to be a wedding gift as requested from the bride. Congrats to the happy couple!! The painted universe is expanding.

HAPPY CANADA DAY (BELATED)

Pretty late on this post : ( It's been hard to keep up to date, I produce more than I catalog so it can get pretty overwhelming. For those who just clued in, this is a meme from a series of Furry Lisa memes. Furry Lisa is a parody painting I did of the Mona Lisa with myself in pink fur and since then I've been altering it digitally for special occasions. Each one can take 20 minutes to a few hours. You can find them scattered about on my instagram @lisangart or my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/lisa.ng.372019 There are maybe a dozen?  I lost count. Now I'm curious, maybe I should round them up into a separate album somewhere..

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE Hanging On The Edge Of A Lizard Frill

Things happening I started a new painting already. Did a U-Turn and find myself on the shadier side of the spectrum, must be all this hot weather we're getting. This is right before I'm about to add the second colour here, stay tuned to find out!

Also re-stretched a new painting for sale next week, I don't know if I'm allowed to announce it yet so I better keep it under wraps but there's a painting coming off the market, can you guess which it is??

Also dealing with carpal tunnel, taking frequent breaks, doing hand exercises, wearing the brace, trying to live my life.

GREEN ANOLE There's A New Painting In Town

Green Anole: acrylic on canvas 12 x 12 x 1.5 inches 2018 $500

I finished my new painting here. It took me awhile and to be honest I changed the colours around quite a bit. It took me awhile to really decide what I was going for and how to achieve it. He's got a pretty pink dewlap, either marking its territory or attracting a mate, he fades back into the room of green also. Both flashy and elusive like a human wink, be careful of getting caught staring. Part of a series of very individualistic reptile rooms I'm working on. Each reptile adapting and dare I say thriving in their perspective housing units. Could these be the characters I meet on the day to day?

Colour Scales

I opened the door in the new painting today and let some of the plants in. I wonder what this means! Here I am above painting my colour scales. I filled those in already so don't get too attached, it already looks different, better. This one's much smaller than previous, it's part of a series of Reptile Rooms. 12 x 12 x 1.5 inches, this one is of a green anole lizard.

I had a pretty good day. I have been painting interspersed with breaks, giving my hands a chance to rest seems to give the carpal tunnel a break. I like to wake up early with the sun, maximize daylight painting time. I hit the paints early then take breaks throughout, going for a walk, groceries, errands, lunch, getting dinner ready, watch and or read an episode of this or that. Tomorrow is another paint day minus a 3 hour work meeting. My attention span runs about 50 minutes so we'll see how I cope, hopefully nobody takes it personally. Except for painting, painting I can go for a few hours without realizing days have passed, like fast forwarding into the future. I'll see you later.
