Halloween Decorating

Halloween's just around the corner, are you decorating? Nothing says happy halloween like your local drawing club. This framed, digital print from The Spooky Astronauts Drawing Club SADC is still available! 11 x 17 inches, framed under glass, $100. Email lisangart@hotmail.com if you're interested, ships anywhere in the world. Below is the digital file, looks like there's a xmas tree too so you're covered for both holidays!

SALEabrations!

I really hit the jackpot this past month of September, I sold 2 paintings!! 1 to a documentary film director and another to an author. I am ECSTATIC, and terribly honoured quite frankly. I swear, most of the time it's nothing for 6 months except the dollar or two postcard sale online. Yet every once in awhile you just hit a stroke of luck, or in this case a steady series! The art world is mad and unpredictable. "Feast or famine." When it rains, it pours!" I am so happy right now it should last me through the next emotional drought which I am anticipating, I dunno, it's just what I'm used to!

I Sold A Print!

I sold a print of my Family Portrait in Chinese Zodiac Animals off my society6 page! I always wonder where and who buys these prints, this is the first one I've sold of this image which means there are probably more to come. So happy to have my family welcomed into another home somewhere : ) My sister in law is a bull, my brother a goat and my grandma the purple snake.

My dad is a rat and my mom a snake. There are several doctors and I'm the nurse in the family hence all the stethoscopes.

This is me as a painting mouse painting my family's human looking portrait. My mom dressed me in a red beret when I was young which I unfortunately lost in a shopping mall : ( The art habit stuck though. To the left is my family's last name Ng in Chinese calligraphy writing but sorta upside down. My grandma does a lot of Chinese calligraphy.

My husband's a pig so he's in here too. He always wears a hat so I've included a tiny one on top of his head. My mom loves to sew so there's the sewing machine in the background.

All the rice dishes my grandma makes at family dinner: beef brisket, salmon with parsley, meat patties with bok choi, shrimp and egg and sticky rice, it's all there.

My favourite part of the painting here too, the snake hug. A snake hug to whoever bought my print, thank you!

AWOL ART SHOW PICS

The AWOL art show is up and it is amazing and I'm not just saying that. My favourite were the pieces carefully selected for their appropriate spaces. Here are my 2 lizard paintings, still available! I'm not going to post any more pics of this show because I really think you should go see it all in person. This post is just to let you know it's up now and you need to go.

CAT ART SHOW PICS

Been a busy cat, but here are pics from the cat art show. They gave my mom's favourite painting, Tiger Queen an honorary spot! This is at the John B. Aird Gallery in their first opening at their new location, I feel special : )

The art writer from the Globe and Mail, standing next to my piece!

The Spooky Astronauts Drawing club got a lot of looks and points.

Feeling pretty overwhelmed at the opening, I'm use to being along in my studio for hours on end so it was pretty crazy having everyone look at my stuff all at once.

The lions in Zebraville, it was fun having people try to find the hidden zebra and no it's no the bust of the zebra at top left corner. There's a live, full body zebra in the painting, did you find it?? Note the zebra pattern in the clouds too. This painting is also from my family's highly guarded private collection. Pet with your eyes, not with your hands!

The Spooky Astronauts Drawing club in the time for Halloween. People with a sense of humour showed interest! My favourite kind of people.

Uh the cat buttons I made for the opening all went FAST!!! You're lucky if you got one.

The show is still up until Oct. 4, I highly encourage you to go! Lot of great cat art up, not just mine! I didn't want to spoil with too many pics, everything looks waaaaay better in person.

I'm Exhibiting!

Dear Art Fans,

It's been awhile. We likely have not seen each other in an itty bitty and I just wanted to say, It's not me, it's you! Basically for awhile there I was losing waaaaay too much money with submission fees so I've been refusing art shows left right and centre and saving my resources, working at my day job (a home care nurse!) and concentrating all my other waking hours on a series of large scale paintings. Until now that is, a wonderful little opportunity came up and I'll have some paintings in the AWOL Collective 20th Anniversary Show: It's Not You, It's Me, alongside with some of my favourite artists in the city. For those of you who have been watching me a long time, I exhibited my first solo show (All You Can Eat, photos below to jog your memory) with this collective, so you know tastes will be quite refined and won't be just another boring art show 😎😘

Dam(n)! There's A Beaver In The Pool

Beaver Dam In The Pool acrylic on canvas 48 x 48 x 1.6 inches 2019 $6500

Happy Canada Day! In celebration I finished and photographed my painting of a giant beaver in the pool! This painting took about three months, working on it every day about 20 hours a week. Part of my series featuring 10 different species of animals being themselves and adapting to different rooms that fill the house of my imagination. This here would be my number 6 and my general write up as featured on my etsy.com and saatchiart.com sites:

People in my life inspired this work. The way in which people are individualistic and adaptable to their environment, I find fascinating. I use this as a metaphor for the different characters I meet in my everyday life. Using a different room of a house in each painting, I am slowly building my dream home with a family of animals! Humanity, along with its encounter with the beauty of nature provided the imagery for this work. I hope viewers will feel delighted in how this particular character has successfully adapted to its particular environment of the indoor swimming pool. The beaver builds dams in lakes and rivers and this one can't help himself but build something similar out of pool toys and furniture! Beavers are busy and nocturnal for the most part. I paint what moves me, resiliency of the living spirit. These paintings are about how we just can't help but be our best when we our best selves, no matter the adversity, no matter the circumstance. Each painting comes with painted sides and requires no frame. Complete with hangy wire also it is ready for your enjoyment!
