Project 165 is thrilled to present Methinks’ Holiday PopUp Art Shop Village: a contemporary art and craft showcase housed inside a life-size diorama, curated and art-directed by Ryan Ringer.

This playful space of curiosity and wonder, featuring the work of 50-plus local and international creators, promises to take the drudgery out of the holiday gift-seeking experience, making it fun and memorable while giving new meaning to the term “presentation is everything.” More than an art and craft sale, the Holiday PopUp Art Shop Village is a conversation about quality, craft and the business of persuasion in Toronto’s art scene. Says Ringer: “This is a rare and special opportunity for a general audience not just to find a special stocking-stuffer but to consider the exhibition as a work of art. Moreover, it challenges traditional art sale formats and raises the bar for anyone working with the popup shop concept.”

Past Holiday PopUp Art Shop Projects include a replica of the livingroom-museum of the fictional curiosity collector Uncle Ronnie Graham (one of Ringer’s many alter egos), and a faux-stone-and-mortar Chris’mas cottage made of cardboard and papier-mâché. This year, Ringer and his specially chosen crew of collaborators will build not just one popup shop but an entire village of popup shops inside Project 165’s storefront exhibition space in Kensington Market.

For sale will be artist books, painting, ceramics, illustration, sculpture, dollies, greeting cards, fashion and home accessories, artist-performed dinners-for-two, dioramas, hand-printed t-shirts, posters and other one-of-a-kind finds.

@ 17:00 today The Spooky Astronaut Drawing Club announced that they will not be attending the closing party for the Fall And The Freaky art show @ Mudpuppy Gallery, Amherstburg, On.. This is due to a lack in the spacebux fund, a tank low on fuel, and an unforseable creativity sharing strike. Words from the Vice President, "This was tough, next month will be better." The Spooky Astronauts have elected and appointed an ambassador to go forth in their place. The ambassador has accepted. "I plan to go and represent the Spooky Astronauts if no one objects, I'm honored." commented Mike Brown.

CREATIVITY SHARING STRIKE AUTUMN 2010

Due to an accumulation of broken promises, shattered dreams, and just plain insincereity, I have come to see the art world a dangerous place. Scary thought as I see art the reflection of life. Although I will be retreating for awhile, it will not affect daily production.
