Progress Report

Started a new painting already. I had the idea in my head for awhile. It's a Red Headed Agama lizard, basically it's a pretty thing with a red head and a blue body. I want to make him camouflaged into a blue room with only the head sticking out in red. Another alpha male marking territory and or attracting a mate. Nature is so pretty and it just happens! See previous post for my take on this series of lizards in rooms I seem to be occupied with right now. Anyway, it took me a few tries (erasers and paint- overs) to get the composition and all the contours right, exactly how I want them. The carpal tunnel  has been intermittent. I am taking hourly breaks, wearing the brace and just got introduced to some stretches and massaging options. Every day that I get to paint has been a blessing and I am very thankful.

Frilled Lizard acrylic on canvas 12 x 12 x 1.5 inches 2018 $500

This painting is part of a a giant lizards in rooms series I'm working on. I like lizards, I like how they come in all different patterns and colours. Each species is pretty unique and have somehow adapted and evolved in their own special way for survival, like a natural talent. I like enhancing their characteristics within the sheltered space I have provided for them, making them look good in a protected place where they might belong. I love celebrating their differences, watching them thrive in their prospective environments, it allows me to discover things within myself.

The Frilled Lizard Has Arrived!

Process shots showing some of the steps it took. I'm wearing my wrist brace because of carpal tunnel.

Getting the drawing contours in first with a tiny brush then filling in the big areas with a larger brush.

Busting out the teeny tinies. I took good care of my brushes this time around and 1 teeny tiny did the trick.

Using a flyer as a palette surface. Note all the different yellows, some warmer than others, some darker than others. I love painting shadows, they sure give a thing depth.

Some final colours, fine-tuning the colour decisions. I'm largely working within a tight spectrum of charcoal grey so I have to add the variations carefully. Everything's relative though so it's really about stepping back and taking a look at the bigger picture before finalizing my choices.

I added just a bit of pink to this painting, I couldn't help myself.

Mapping out the grid to get the pattern right.

I love patterns because they give the vision field rhythm.

Mixing a bunch of different blacks, guess it's hard to tell here but some have a smudge of blue, others red and others slightly grey.

Last minute just decided it needed something in the corner here.

I'll photograph it tomorrow if the lighting is right. That's my journey although I've already begun the schematics for the next painting already so you're just a couple hours behind. Thanks for keeping up 😊

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME (BELATED)

Oops, this post is late too. Every year the peonies come out around my birthday in June. Below is a bunch I got this year! I ended up using it as a reference photo for the Furry Lisa meme above. It didn't take me long, maybe 30 minutes? I just drew the peonies on top of the original painting with the computer. I like how it turned out and I'm a big fan of different shades of pinks and reds together so.. Why do I do these? I don't know, it's a real accessible way to get a bunch of ideas across. The concepts are time dependent so it does force you to come up with a new idea on the spot and knowing you have sort of a deadline to complete it. I live for the rush! Now if I could only share it on time on here..

I sold a painting!

Last parting photo with the Narwhal, I love selling paintings! Forever exciting, this one's going to be a wedding gift as requested from the bride. Congrats to the happy couple!! The painted universe is expanding.

HAPPY CANADA DAY (BELATED)

Pretty late on this post : ( It's been hard to keep up to date, I produce more than I catalog so it can get pretty overwhelming. For those who just clued in, this is a meme from a series of Furry Lisa memes. Furry Lisa is a parody painting I did of the Mona Lisa with myself in pink fur and since then I've been altering it digitally for special occasions. Each one can take 20 minutes to a few hours. You can find them scattered about on my instagram @lisangart or my Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/lisa.ng.372019 There are maybe a dozen?  I lost count. Now I'm curious, maybe I should round them up into a separate album somewhere..
